Course Outline and Method
This introductory course helps students develop their understanding of global society. Leaving Japan for an overseas country with a vastly different culture and social background, students will cultivate a global perspective while developing a deeper knowledge and understanding of the relevant region through in-country study. Through this experience in an intercultural environment, students will enhance their ability to adapt and be resilient in the face of difficulties and stresses resulting from different value systems and lifestyles as well as develop the ability to consider and evaluate Japan and their own culture objectively. In addition, through in-country practical study activities such as field work and projects, students will independently and autonomously experience the local lifestyle, culture and economic activities of the region, and gain the “flexibility” and “resolution” required in the development of global competence.
At Boston University, US, students will study foreign languages as well as learn about topics such as culture, society and history. Students will also develop a deep understanding of the local culture through practical learning activities such as university lectures and field trips. In regard to foreign language study, this course aims to comprehensively enhance all four language skills (reading, writing, listening, speaking) of participating students.
