Course Outline and Method

Classes will be held live-streamed.
Students will focus on the communicative and academic skills involved in preparation for approved standardized tests. Note-taking skills are developed to solidify comprehension and to promote confidence in speaking. Students provide answers orally on key information from listening texts. Students synthesize information they have engaged with in reading and convey this information in their own words. The course will use a required textbook. The textbook will be supplemented with authentic materials introduced in class. Students will also be required to research their own supplemental materials. Topics of interest within International Studies are incorporated into the syllabus, while maintaining a focus on chosen themes for test preparation. Students will be made to understand that their own extensive self-study outside the classroom is essential for progress in listening and speaking skills.

Student Attainment Objectives

Increase command of English to take Academic Skills courses and core program courses carried out in English or to prepare for study abroad as exchange students.
