Course Outline and Method

This course will focus on helping students develop their total academic English skills (i.e., reading, writing, listening, and speaking). In class, the students will be required to have group discussions on a wide variety of topics. Students will be asked to summarize reading materials clearly and concisely in both written and presentation forms. In addition to summarizing, students will be expected to incorporate their ideas and views into their writing and presentation in an effective manner.
This is not a lecture-style class. Students must work collaboratively in group discussions and pair work to maximize learning.

After completing this course, students should be able to:
1. Understand summarizing
2. feel comfortable presenting reading materials and their perspectives about the materials
