授業の概要と方法

This course aims to develop students’ English skills so they can confidently talk about Japan and themselves when interacting with foreigners. The lessons follow three main themes: “Tell Me About Yourself,” “Tell Me About Japan,” and “Tell Me More About Japan”, focusing on practical and natural communication.

Each lesson integrates the four key skills—speaking, listening, reading, and writing—along with a cultural component to deepen students’ understanding of their own culture. The primary emphasis is on speaking and active communication, rather than grammar instruction, as students are expected to apply their existing grammatical knowledge in real-life conversations.

The course is structured around pair and group activities, including dialogue practice and discussions on practical topics. Through repeated exposure to useful vocabulary and expressions, students will gradually build their confidence. By the end of the course, they will be able to express their thoughts clearly and deliver a short speech, enhancing their ability to use English in real-life situations.

受講生の到達目標

By the end of this course you should be able to:
1. Develop confidence in speaking English by engaging in practical and interactive conversations.
2. Effectively communicate about Japan and personal experiences in response to questions from foreigners.
3. Expand vocabulary and idiomatic expressions through repeated exposure in meaningful contexts.
4. Enhance listening and comprehension skills by engaging in authentic dialogues and discussions.
5. Present ideas clearly and logically by preparing and delivering short speeches.

授業実施形態

第 1 回をメディア授業，第 2 回〜14 回を対⾯授業にて実施。

授業外学習の指示

As a review activity, you are required to give a short speech in each class on the topic learned in the previous session. You should base your speech on a memo while speaking naturally and spontaneously. To achieve this, you need to practice speaking. Some tips for effective speaking practice will be provided in class.
As a pre-learning activity for the next class, a reading and vocabulary practice assignment will be given. You are required to familiarize yourself with the topic by learning keywords and phrases before class.
You are responsible for any information you miss when absent.
