授業の概要と方法

In this course, students will actively engage in discussions and presentations to articulate their comprehension of lectures and propose solutions to the multifaceted challenges of the 21st century, with a particular focus on the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
SDGs are relevant to economics students because:
(1) The SDGs provide a comprehensive framework that goes beyond traditional economic indicators. They encompass social, environmental, and economic dimensions, encouraging a more holistic approach to development. Economics students need to understand that economic progress cannot be achieved at the expense of social equity or environmental sustainability.
(2) The SDGs recognize the interconnected nature of global challenges. Economic issues are often intertwined with social and environmental issues. For example, poverty reduction (SDG 1) is closely linked to economic growth (SDG 8) and environmental sustainability (SDG 13). Economics students need to appreciate the interdependence of these goals for effective policy formulation.
(3) Governments and international organizations are increasingly aligning policies with the SDGs. Economics students, as future policymakers, need to be familiar with these goals to contribute effectively to policy discussions and decision-making processes. Sustainable development principles are becoming integral to economic policymaking.
(4) Many businesses are incorporating sustainable practices into their operations as part of corporate social responsibility. Understanding the SDGs is crucial for economics students seeking careers in the private sector, as sustainable business practices are becoming increasingly important for companies' success and societal acceptance.
Students are not only encouraged to grasp the complexities of the issues discussed but are also expected to cultivate and express their own ideas confidently. Each student will make group presentations twice throughout the semester, showcasing their individual perspectives and insights

You are to take a 20-minute online class between weeks 7 and 9.
