Course Outline and Method

【差し替え】当初予定していた教材が利用できなくなりましたので、2025年７月30日に以下のとおり授業内容を差し替えました。

米国連邦裁判所の20世紀の主要判例（landmark cases）２つにつき、（英語学習者向けではなく主にアメリカの生徒を念頭に作成された）平易な要約やワークシートの助けも借りつつ理解を深める。あわせて、第二次世界大戦時アメリカにおける日系人の強制収容に関する英文を読み、歴史的背景の理解を深める。

Student Attainment Objectives

1. 一般的な新聞記事の文章と同等かやや易しいレベルの、法政治分野の英文を読み、正しく理解できる。具体的には、Schenck v. United States (1919)およびKorematsu v. United States (1944)に関する英文を読み、正確に理解できる。
2. 読解を通じて、移民や人種、戦争、市民運動等に関わる今日的課題を考察するうえでも重要な用語・概念等を身につけ、適切に運用できる。

Recommended Preparatory Course

必須の科目なし。
アメリカの文化・歴史、20世紀国際政治史、移民史などに関連する受講や読書が助けとなるかも知れません。

指定された英文を各自黙読し、理解に努める。必要に応じて英英辞典・英和辞典を使用すること。
授業後に英文を再読し、理解を深めること。適宜ノートにまとめたり、語彙日誌(vocabulary log)をつけるのもよい。テキストに関連する動画を（英語キャプション有りで）視聴すれば、聞き取り・話す 力をつけるために役立つ。
プレゼンテーションや提出課題の準備をつうじて、読解にどどまらず総合的な運用力を高める（課題をたんなる〈作業〉としてこなすことは勧めない）。
