Course Outline and Method
Like IE II, Intensive English V helps student focus intensively on the communicative and academic skills involved in preparation for approved standardized tests. Note-taking skills are developed to solidify comprehension and to promote confidence in speaking. Students provide answers orally on key information from listening texts. Students synthesize information they have engaged with in reading and convey this information in their own words. The objectives include the ability to express opinions and report information about a given topic in clear, coherent sentences, as well as the ability to comprehend the main ideas, supports, and examples from academic course lectures and to take notes accordingly. Students will be made to understand that their own extensive self-study outside the classroom is essential for progress in listening and speaking skills. Formative evaluation is made through class participation, including small quizzes and assignments.
Student Attainment Objectives
1. Students will have the ability to express opinions and report information about a given topic in clear, coherent sentences.
2. Students will have the ability to comprehend the main ideas, supports, and examples from academic course lectures and to take notes accordingly.
3. Students will learn how to apply skills from this course in various fields of interest within International Studies.
