授業の概要と方法

This course encourages students to enhance their understanding of various topics about the Central Government in Japan from comparative perspective.Topics in the course include government system itself and relating areas such as bureaucracy, parliament (the Diet), and public policy making. We will read one or two academic articles, newspaper in both Comparative Politics and Japanese Politics every week. Course materials are distributed online one week in advance of the class. Supplementary reading will be introduced in the class.
The course will be based on lectures and discussions. The instructor will give a lecture for 20-30 minutes. Following the lecture, we will discuss several topics provided by several students in advance of the class for 30-45 minutes. The instructor will conclude the discussion in the end of each class. To engage in class discussions, students are expected to complete all the required readings before each class.

13 classes on Face to Face basis, 2 classes on Media basis (on-demand classes expected).
These are subject to change due to lecturer's trip to attend several academic conferences abroad.

You need to submit short reaction paper after the class each week. You also need to write a final essay (5-10 pages expected) .
