Intensive English for International Studies is an elective course intended to meet the various
needs of students who must increase their command of English to take Academic Skills courses
and core program courses carried out in English or to prepare for study abroad as exchange
students. IEIS II promotes communicative competence by preparing students to demonstrate
their listening and speaking skills in approved standardized tests. Topics of interest within
International Studies are incorporated into the syllabus, while maintaining a focus on chosen
themes for test preparation. Course objectives include promotion of the ability to engage in
face-to-face interview situations and to converse on topics such as describing your own life
situations and goals, and the ability to understand conversations about everyday experiences
and educational context situations. Formative evaluation is performed through class
participation, including small quizzes and assignments.
