Recommendations for Private Study
2. Review and preview your textbook for each week of class. Write down any words or expressions you do not know and look up their meaning. If you have questions, write them down so you can ask your instructor in class.
3. Use the online workbook to review listening and video activities, and complete practice activities even if they are not assigned as homework.
4. Prepare to summarize what you learned each week in a short speech; you may be asked to speak in front of the class.
5. Keep a record of new words, phrases, and grammar (either in a notebook or in a mobile device) and review it frequently.
6. Practice speaking out loud, either by reading out loud or shadowing listening activities. Focus on using correct pronunciation.
7. Practice listening, reading and writing at home as much as you can. Find books, videos or articles at your English level and review them several times with a dictionary. When you write, write in full sentences using new words you have learned.
8. Find a TOEIC application or textbook that works for you and use it to prepare for taking the TOEIC. Focus especially on test taking methods and building vocabulary.

Advice to Students on Study and Research Methods
2. Each day there will be an initial and final speaking activity. You may be asked to speak, so be prepared to do so in every class.
3. If your instructor asks a question or confirms whether students are following along, do not stay silent – answer the question, or respond with “yes” or “no.”
4. When your instructor asks you a question, respond within 3 seconds.
5. If you do not understand something, ask a question – your classmates may have the same question.
6. We are all learning – ask your classmates for help, and help your classmates when you can.
