Language

During the preparation period in Japan, we use both Japanese and English (to get used to communication in English during the trip in Laos).
During the stay in Laos, English is the main language for communication.
For the follow-up activities (presentation, report), it is possible to use either English or Japanese.

Course Outline and Method

The Overseas Field Work aims to introduce students to Laos (full name: Lao People’s Democratic Republic, Lao PDR), as a case study for developing countries. Students will have the opportunity to visit Laos and learn about economic development and challenges faced by the country. We will collaborate with the National University of Laos (Faculty of Economics and Business Management), and students can experience cultural exchange with Lao students who study Japanese language as their major.

Student Attainment Objectives

Students will have the opportunity to visit Laos and learn about foreign direct investment (FDI) and special economic zone (SEZ) development, official development assistance (ODA) (for example, development activities of some development partners in Laos, such as JICA, the World Bank, and the Asian Development Bank), ecotourism, and experience cultural exchange with Lao students.
