授業の概要と方法

[Class Theme] Linguistics: Scientific Study of Language

This course attempts to explore why language is the way it is. World-famous linguist, Noam Chomsky once noted that language is a mirror of mind. Therefore, exploring language means developing our understanding of the unconscious knowledge we have about language, the structure of language, how we communicate using language.
During 15 weeks of the course, we will explore various components of linguistics: Phonetics, Phonology, Morphology, Syntax, Semantics and Pragmatics.
You may be asked to summarize part of a chapter, and explain what it is about to the rest of the class.
All of you are required to make a short presentation on a topic you like about language or linguistics at the end of the course.
