Course Outline and Method
This fifteen week class has two parts: Part One consists of readings, discussions, lectures, and videos. Prior to the class, students will be assigned a reading, mostly from textbook. Discussions will then be held in accordance with the discussion points issued at the beginning of the class. Then, the instructor will lecture and show a video of a specific issue on contemporary China after the student discussions on the reading. Part Two, a few weeks before the end of the class, will consist of research presentations. Students will form several groups, do research on a contemporary issue in China, and present it to the class. Q&A and discussion will follow the presentations.
