Course Outline and Method

[Course’s Outline]
In economic classes, have you ever thought of the following?
“But real people do not act that way…”
But then, in which way does a “real people” act? In which ways do we differ from the rational decision makers, and are there any systematic tendencies? Experimental economics and behavioral economics are new fields of research which aims to analyze people’s behavior. In this class, we will learn how to run economic experiments, which will allow us to answer the above questions.

[Course’s methods]
The course will take a seminar form, and you will be working in groups. In the first half of the class, we will replicate some of the existing studies. So, we will conduct experiments, learn about the topic, and analyze the results. Also, we will learn about [1] things to consider when running the experiment, and [2] the merits and demerits of using the experimental methods. In the latter half of the class, you will design your own experiment, conduct it, analyze the results, and give a presentation.

This is not an English class, but a class on experimental economics in English.

Student Attainment Objectives

By the end of this course, you should be able to:
1. understand the merits and demerits of the experimental methods,
2. run an experiment and conduct a simple analysis of it, and
