授業の概要と方法

In CALL 1 (Computer-Assisted Language Learning), students engage in interactive learning through multimedia. Students are expected to develop listening and oral production skills with natural English pronunciation and rhythm by watching authentic video news reports, lectures and speeches through the ‘English Central’ website. They will practice reading passages aloud, shadowing news reports, narrating documentaries, and reciting speeches. They will also review grammar and practice listening with the online English-learning program called ‘Gyuto-e’ in and out of class.

In CALL1- A class, students will further be trained in TOEFL iBT® Test style speaking and writing exercises, which will not only be helpful for doing well on the TOEFL® Test exam, but will improve students' ability to respond intelligently to important issues.

Throughout the semester, students will receive feedback on in-class activities and assignments from the instructor in order to develop their abilities.

授業実施形態

All the class sessions will be held face-to-face. No Zoom class is scheduled.

授業外学習の指示

Students are required to perform multiple tasks as assignments every week, including a considerable amount of exercises on ‘Gyuto-e’ and ‘English Central’. Students should keep up to date with them by studying regularly in and out of class. Requirements for the online learning may vary depending on the class levels.

If you’ll miss more than 4 class sessions, you’ll fail the course.

受講および研究に関するアドバイス

Students should come on time to class and should be prepared to do a variety of speaking, listening, reading and writing activities in class. Students are also asked to help each other and ask questions when they do not understand. All the assignments must be done without delay.

No textbooks are used in CALL1-A class. However, students need to buy the English Central Academic Premium Access Code at the Ritsumeikan bookstore. 「English CentralのAcademic Premiumアクセスコード」は生協で購入してください。詳細はクラスのmanaba＋Rか授業内で担当教員の示す情報に従い、アクセスコードを購入後、各クラスのEnglish Centralへ登録してください。
