Reconsidering citizenship and borders

What is citizenship, and why does it matter? Who is entitled to be a citizen? Who has the right to accept and reject newcomers? These old questions of citizenship are becoming ever more important today. This class aims to re-examine the idea of citizenship and borders by discussing the literature of normative political theory.

Attendance/participation policy

Students must attend at least ten classes to obtain credit for this course. Students must meet this attendance requirement to be given credits.

Late assignment policy

For weekly comment assignments, no late submission is accepted in principle.

For other assignments, late papers will be penalized 1/2 of a letter grade per day late. For example, if your paper is worth an A but is submitted three hours after the deadline, you'll receive an A- instead. This policy applies to all the assignments students submit in this class. However, this rule does not apply if you are seriously ill or in an emergency. You are responsible for letting the instructor know about such a situation, and you may be asked to present evidence for your emergency.
