Course Outline and Method

This course focuses on developing students’ comprehension of authentic English, by utilizing authentic audiovisual materials, such as movies. Students will enhance their listening and speaking skills through various tasks, such as shadowing, recitation, and delivery of their opinions.

この授業は、ビジネス映画を用いたメディア英語ワークショップである。映画『プラダを着た悪魔』を教材として用いながら、自然なスピードで話される英語の口語表現やビジネス語彙を学ぶとともに、背景のビジネス・シーンに関わる知識を深めていく。この映画はニューヨークで働く女性を主人公とした秀作であり、ファッション界の様子なども垣間見ることができる。作品を通じてさまざまなことを感じながら、これからの自分のキャリアの築き方を考えてほしい。また、お洒落な会話や有用な表現がたくさん出てくるので、それらをマスターし、コミュニケーション能力の向上につなげていきたい。この作品に関連した映画や動画なども取りあげる予定である。また、可能であれば、昨年度と同様、今年度もゲストスピーカーのレクチャーを導入する。楽しく生の英語に触れていく授業としたい。

Class Format

対面授業を基本とするが、メディア授業を2回程度（第4週、第8週）取り入れる予定である。

Recommendations for Private Study

授業に際しては、予習・復習が求められる。予習の範囲は毎回の授業で指示する。
自宅で映画『プラダを着た悪魔』を視聴する手段（DVD、動画配信サービスなど）を確保することが必要である。

日頃から映画で用いられるようなナチュラルな速さの英語に慣れ親しんでおくこと。
また、上記の授業スケジュールはtentativeなものなので、受講生の興味などに合わせて柔軟に対応する。

こちらが作成した資料を配付するため、教科書を購入する必要はないが、代わりに各自で映画『プラダを着た悪魔』を視聴する手段を確保することを受講条件とする。DVDは安価（1,000円程度）に購入できるが、動画配信サービスなどの利用でもよいので、こちらで特定メディアを指定することはしない。
