The aim of English for International Studies is to develop a high-level command of English, which will allow students to deepen their knowledge of International Relations. This is a basic writing course for students with the primary theme to develop the student’s ability in academic writing and confidence in using academic English to communicate. Emphasis will be given to APA style writing, appropriate word choices, varied sentence patterns, clear organizational patterns, and the use of in-text citations and references. The course is structured for students to feel comfortable writing in a variety of academic situations.

受講生の到達目標

1) Students shall learn about discourse structure, conventional academic report design, citations and references, paraphrasing, quotations, and academic honesty.
2) Students will learn about different academic writing styles and writing to different audiences using the APA format.
3) Students will be able to summarize facts and arguments related to International Society and write reports after researching the issues.
While this course emphasizes writing skills, students shall continue to develop all four skills in English.
