Course Outline and Method

This course aims to raise awareness of cross-cultural issues through various types of input, such as reading newspapers and magazines and viewing news and media clips. Classroom activities will require active communication and participation as discussions and presentations. Furthermore, students will produce examples of informal writing, such as messages, diary entries, and opinion pieces.

In this class, students are expected to direct their own learning. This means you will choose your topics, research the ideas, and decide in what ways you will present the information in your groups.

Students are expected to research topics on current world issues and trends and discuss these issues in class. Doing so will give you a better understanding of the world, culture, and language. This will allow you to develop an understanding and opinion related to these issues as a basis of their projects and to be able to communicate them effectively in English.

Student Attainment Objectives

By the end of this course you should be able to:
1. Understand authentic English reading and listening materials
2. Create effective presentations (4-6 minutes) and videos and be able to use the technology and tools to do so
3. Complete basic research effectively
