Course Outline and Method
This course aims to train students to gain skills described in the process below. It shares the above goal with Introduction to On-site Research 2 offered in the fall semester.
1. In principle, students will work in the same research group year-round in both this course and Introduction to On-site Research 2 offered in the fall semester. Students will conduct research on the group theme in an effective, planned way and based on a consensus built among group members.
2. Students will share knowledge relevant to the theme among group members by studying materials and other means.
3. Students will undertake fieldwork if possible and necessary, and learn the basics and etiquette of fieldwork such as the following firsthand: how to determine and contact research subjects; how to conduct interviews and other types of research while following etiquette; how to manage and compile collected data; and how to send a report and extend gratitude to the subjects following the fieldwork.
4. Students will write their report based on statistics and databases, statistical data analysis, and hypothesis testing, depending on the theme.
5. Students will summarize the outcome of the group work into their report by discussing with other group members and keeping structure and expressions in mind.
The above process provides an example and may differ from that of each group in focuses and structure.
Students will submit the Project Report I showing the project progress at the end of the semester and may be required to give a presentation as necessary.
In this course, absences and tardiness will be handled as follows.
① If you are absent four or more times (four classes) in one semester, you will receive a grade of F.
② About tardiness
- If you enter the classroom within 20 minutes of the start of class, you will be considered "late."
- If you enter the classroom more than 20 minutes after the start of class, you will be considered "absent."
- If you are "late" twice, it will be considered one "absence."
