Course Outline and Method

This seminar is intended to critically examine basic literatures on international relations in East Asia and designed for students who plan to write graduation thesis on these topics. In this seminar, first, we will learn basic theoretical concepts and methodological skills to analyze international relations and global economy based on IR (International Relations)/IPE (International Political Economy). Second, this seminar will discuss international relations among East Asian countries including U.S. foreign policy toward East Asia, the rise of China, U.S.-China trade “war”, East Asian economic cooperation, Hallyu in East Asia and the U.S., Japan-ROK history issues, North Korean nuclear issues, and the Taiwan issues, etc. Finally, students will demonstrate their research results by completing and presenting their graduation thesis.

Student Attainment Objectives

- develop their knowledge of basic concepts and theories of IR/IPE.
- analyze international relations in East Asia based on theoretical understanding of IR/IPE.
- acquire basic research and methodological skills
- present their research in an effective manner
- complete graduation thesis
