Course Outline and Method

The emphasis of the English program is REACH which stands for Responsibility, Environment, Awareness, Collaboration, and Humanitarianism. The English Stream will prepare students to be aware of differing cultures, and to become more responsible and collaborative with others through the use of English. The goal of this stream is to prepare students to use English in social and working environments. The aim of Thematic Development 1 is for students to be able to carry out discussions and express their opinions in English on various social issues based on REACH. This class will meet twice a week. Classes will consist of collaborative activities either completed using manaba+R, Zoom or a socially distanced physical classroom. Students will work through various assignments in their textbooks either independently or with classmates. Many assignments make use of multimedia such as video and internet links. Students will also complete presentations which will be performed in front of class or through video. The instructor will provide feedback in the physical classroom, on manaba+R or through Zoom, depending on the activity.

Student Attainment Objectives

By the end of this course you will be able to:
・ask follow-up questions and clarification questions, ask for more details and give clarification summaries when discussing social issues taught in class beyond the model given
