Recommendations for Private Study

Do the homework.
Homework is essential for grades and to understand the material well.
Homework helps with mastering the language: reading, vocabulary use and writing all reinforce the learning. Grammar and vocabulary also gives a strong foundation for spoken language.

Review classwork for deeper understanding and to remember vocabulary, sentence structure.
Homework also helps to prepare for the next class.

Home listening is recommended for speaking proficiency: students will gain competence and confidence much more quickly than only doing spoken work or listening in class.

A minimum of 1 hour homework is recommended per per class. This may be the homework, listening and reading. The textbook has plenty of reading but reading even outside the textbook is helpful.

The best attitude is one of open interest. It is useful to start homestudy shortly after the class, while the material is fresh. It need not be immediately finished (depending on homework deadlines.) It is useful to warm up before the class, by reading or listening beforehand.
