授業の概要と方法
【授業の概要】
This course will develop students’ability to read and respond critically to academic material. Course readings will cover a variety of topics such as the family, gender issues, intercultural communication, education, politics and the environment, building students’ knowledge of core vocabulary for the social sciences. Special emphasis is placed on developing students’ ability to engage in discussions of issues raised in course readings.
Students will develop a range of skills, including the ability to:
- give an oral summary of something they have read
- express and support an opinion in the context of discussion
- express disagreement or suggest alternative points of view
- ask questions seeking clarification of another speaker’s views

Warning against Plagiarism（盗用/ 剽窃について注意）
All students must know that they may not copy another person's work, in whole or in part, without use of academic citation. Unacknowledged copying is plagiarism, which is a serious academic offense. If students copy another person's work and submit it under their own name, they risk failing the course.
Submitting the same writing assignment or doing the same presentation more than once (i.e. in two or more different courses) is also a form of academic misconduct and is strictly prohibited.
受講生は他者の作品を引用する場合は、学術的引証の方法を用いなければならない。引用の出典を明示することなく、他者の作品を丸ごとあるいは一部でもコピーしてはならない。出典を明らかにすることなくコピーした場合は、盗用/剽窃であり、重大な不正行為である。他者の作品をコピーして自分の作品として提出した場合は、当該科目の単位が授与されないなど、厳重な処罰の対象となる。また自分の作品でも、同じ作品を２度以上流用して、提出あるいはプレゼンテーションに使用してはならない。そのような行為も不正行為であり、厳重な処罰の対象となる。
