Course Outline and Method

【+R-Jugyo】
This course will not have +R-Jugyo. The number of class hours for “+R-Jugyo” will be covered by activities related to the course.

This seminar intends to explore and investigate the issues related to Security Studies, i.e., from classic security fields of wars and conflicts to non-traditional security threats, such as transnational organized crime and international terrorism.

The end of the Cold War expanded the concept of “security”, and led to “securitization” of various phenomena including drug/human trafficking, migration, environmental change and children’s well-being. At the same time, classic military disputes still remain and hold significance; some states waging war against others, and internal disputes spread to the neighbouring states and trigger regional unease.

This seminar’s aiming to deepen the knowledge and cultivate thoughts on issues in Security Studies field as well as to develop the analytical and research skills. In order to achieve these goals, discussions and presentations to the class are encouraged.
