授業の概要と方法

Anthropology is the comparative study of culture, religion and human societies in aim of examining the general principles of them. This course will introduce students to the different ways of anthropological analysis and its practical relevance to understanding societies and cultural practices related to religious beliefs.

Each week will have reading material(s) for each class. These are class notes and specific readings.

Students are required to work on their respective research topic for an individual presentation during the course, and then to submit a final essay based on the presentation by the end of the course. Presentations are generally per person about 15 minutes in length though these may change to be in groups or shorten ones according to the number of students registering.

I welcome the research topic related to one of the themes of course schedule: kinship and family, marriage gender, religion, ritual, and body, but it may not have to be limited to them. Each student is required to work on a topic that has keen interest on them. International students are encouraged to choose it deeply connected to their society for introducing cultural characteristic of those international students’ country to Japanese students.
