The aim of IEIS IV is, similar to IEIS I, to increase students' command of general academic English in the areas of reading and vocabulary. In this course, students will review the Academic Vocabulary List and increase their vocabulary by learning synonyms of these listed words and reading various types of academic materials. With these reading skills such as previewing, skimming, and scanning, students will read and comprehend various controversial issues such as environmental issues and immigrant issues discussed very often in the field of international issues. Students will have task-based testings and examine their improvement in reading comprehension in terms of increasing vocabulary. Formative evaluation is made through class participation, including small quizzes and assignments.
Student Attainment Objectives
2. Students will be able to analyze texts from not only the author’s point of view, but from opposing points of view as well.
3. Students will be able to increase their vocabulary and improve their comprehension of academic materials.
