Course Outline and Method

The emphasis of the English program is REACH which stands for Responsibility, Environment, Awareness, Collaboration, and Humanitarianism. Through opportunities of research and discussion of social issues, students will become more aware of responsibilities of global citizens. The goal of the Global Stream is to prepare students to study abroad as well as to be prepared to use English in academic or working environments. The aim of English for Studying Abroad 2 is to further prepare students to take standardized tests such as TOEIC, IELTS and TOEFL for studying abroad in English-speaking countries. This is a continuation of English for Studying Abroad 1.
Activities to become familiar with the TOEIC test will be the main focus, but additional activities from IELTS and TOEFL tests will also be provided. Tasks such as in reading and listening will be done individually, but there also will be collaborative speaking activities and interviews. Manaba+R will be the primary means to hand in written assignments, but students will need to write in answers to the textbook to share answers in the physical classroom. Collaborative activities will also be done in the physical classroom. Furthermore, the instructor will provide feedback in the physical classroom or on manaba+R, depending on the activity. The level of this class is Intermediate (IM).
