Intensive English for International Studies (IEIS) is an elective course intended to meet the various needs of students who must increase their command of English to take Academic Skills courses and core program courses carried out in English or to prepare for study abroad as exchange students.

IEIS I focuses on building vocabulary and reading comprehension. Students will learn reading skills and read texts with a variety of genres in general academic fields. Students will also practice reading short texts such as newspaper articles as well as long ones within a limited time in order to cope with major program courses carried out in English.

Formative evaluation is conducted through class participation, weekly homework assignments, and quizzes/tests that test knowledge of the vocabulary that has been learned. It will also test reading comprehension. A midterm and a final test will also be given to the students.

Classes will be conducted face-to-face in the classroom on campus.

受講生の到達目標

2) Students will be able to read short texts on a variety of academic topics and answer questions to demonstrate their comprehension of these readings.
3) Students will acquire a high-level command of English necessary for them to be enrolled in English language courses offered by their major.
