Course Outline and Method

Intensive English for International Studies is an elective course intended to meet the various needs of students who must increase their command of English to take Academic Skills courses and core program courses carried out in English or to prepare for study abroad as exchange students. IEIS I focuses on building vocabulary and reading comprehension through practicing the reading component of the IELTS exam. Students will learn reading skills and read texts with a variety of genres in common academic fields. Students will also practice reading short texts such as newspaper articles as well as long ones within a limited time in order to cope with major program courses carried out in English. Evaluation is conducted through class participation, homework assignments, and tests.

Student Attainment Objectives

2. Students will be able to read short texts on a variety of academic topics and answer questions to demonstrate their comprehension of these readings.
3. Students will acquire a high-level command of English necessary for them to be enrolled in various courses in English offered by their majors.
