Course Outline and Method

In this class, students will learn the basics of statistics. Statistics is a useful subject for both graduation thesis and post-graduation work, but as students progress through the study of statistics, they will encounter aspects that are difficult to understand intuitively, such as normal distribution, estimation, and testing. In this class, we aim to avoid complex mathematics as much as possible and provide an intuitive understanding of normal distribution, estimation, testing, and other aspects.

Basic knowledge of probability calculations is a prerequisite for taking this course, but the textbook also contains explanations of the basics of probability, so even if you don't have sufficient knowledge, you can take the course as long as you are able to study the basics on your own.

We do not follow the textbook exactly in our classes. Please use the textbook as a supplementary reading material when you don't understand something, or as a way to review and prepare for class.

The class schedule may change depending on the level of understanding of the students.

Student Attainment Objectives

The goal for students is to intuitively understand the concepts of estimation and testing, and be able to apply this knowledge when using statistical software.
