授業の概要と方法

- This course aims to teach the basics of Japanese grammar. It is designed for those students who have little knowledge of the Japanese language, and provides training in the four basic skills of speaking, listening, writing, and reading.
- This course offers students seminar-style classes. Feedback will be given in class.

受講生の到達目標

The students will be able to
1. read and write Japanese characters (Hiragana, Katakana and Kanji)
2. understand basic Japanese grammar structures
3. listen to and make basic conversations
4. read and write simple sentences

Some knowledge of Japanese alphabetical characters (Hiragana and Katakana) is prerequisite. See "Web Pages Useful for Reference" below.

授業実施形態

Class sessions are held face-to-face on campus.

授業外学習の指示

- This course requires that students study about three hours a week at least outside of class. Out-of-class work includes class preparation, post-class review, and homework/assignments along with any work assigned by course instructors who facilitate learning in the course.

- Read "Grammar" and learn the meaning of "Vocabulary" at home before each lesson starts. In addition to homework assignments, students are expected to take time to pursue language learning independently, such as memorizing words, and applying what they have learned in real life situations.

- Make use of Beyond Borders Plaza (BBP), where books for Japanese language learning are available. A study advice session is also provided for those who want assistance from a Japanese language instructor. For further information, please visit https://www.ritsumei.ac.jp/bbp/
