Course Outline and Method
本科目は、イギリスのヨーク大学において、英語に関する高度なアカデミック・ランゲージについて学び、外国語による専門的な学習や研究に必要な知識やスキルの獲得を目指す。授業では、アカデミック・ランゲージの理解に不可欠なリーディング、リスニング、ライティング、スピーキングを総合的に学び、また、特定のテーマ学習を通じて、アカデミック・ランゲージの知識やスキルを応用し、実践的に学びを深める機会も提供する。
具体的には、英語コミュニケーション能力について，「英語そのものの言語的能力の高さ」、「文化的背景の知識と理解」、「英語能力を大学での学び(例えばディスカッションやライティング)にどう応用できるか」の3つの側面から学習を行う。また「イギリス」、「ヨーク」、「ヨーロッパ」等をテーマに取り上げ学習を進めていく。また，授業では，”English Language Enhancement”と”Academic English Skills”のコンテンツに分け、発音や文法構造などの基礎英語から欧米圏の大学で必要なアカデミック・スキルに至るまで、英語の習熟を目指した講義を集中的に行い、受講者の英語コミュニケーション能力を最大限に引き伸ばす。
