Course Outline and Method

The emphasis of the English program is REACH which stands for Responsibility, Environment, Awareness, Collaboration, and Humanitarianism. The English Stream is to prepare students to be aware of differing cultures, to become more responsible and collaborative with others through using English. The goal of this stream is to prepare students to use English in social and working environments.
In Study Skills 11, students practice reading passages of a variety of topics with a purpose of acquiring reading and critical thinking skills. They are supposed to read effectively and thoroughly the assigned passages using background knowledge, reading strategies, and appropriate tools (e.g., dictionaries). Based on the information they get from reading, they work on learning activities such as listing key points, preparing a summary, making visual organizers, pointing out issues, classifying claims, offering extra explanations, and sharing their own (critical) views in class. You are supposed to prepare for each class, submit assignments, and take quizzes and exams in accordance with your teacher’s instruction. Your teacher will provide feedback in the physical classroom or on manaba+R, depending on the activity.
The level of this class is UI (upper-intermediate).
