Course Outline and Method

This course will be conducted face-to-face. This course is taught jointly by a native English speaker and a native Japanese speaker in order to maximize the students' acquisition of applicable grammar and vocabulary skills, and the opportunity to use such skills in practice.

The primary focus of this course is to introduce students to the fundamental principles of the common law, and the vocabulary related to such topics. We will discuss subjects including sources of the common law, differences between common law and civil law countries, and current events in the politics of common law countries.

Students will take four short tests and give a presentation individually on the topic they are interested in. In principle, test results and feedback will be given the following week in class.

Students who intend to study law abroad are strongly encouraged to enroll in this course.

Students are required to participate in every class.
