Course Outline and Method

The emphasis of the English program is REACH which stands for Responsibility, Environment, Awareness, Collaboration, and Humanitarianism. Through opportunities of research and discussion of social issues, students will become more aware of responsibilities of global citizens. The goal of the Global Stream is to prepare students to study abroad as well as to be prepared to use English in academic and working environments. In Study Skills 11, students practice reading passages of a variety of topics with a purpose of acquiring reading and critical thinking skills. They are supposed to read effectively and thoroughly the assigned passages using background knowledge, reading strategies, and appropriate tools (e.g., dictionaries). Based on the information they get from reading, they work on learning activities such as listing key points, preparing a summary, making visual organizers, pointing out issues, classifying claims, offering extra explanations, and sharing their own (critical) views in class. You are supposed to prepare for each class, submit assignments, and take quizzes and exams in accordance with your teacher’s instruction. Your teacher will provide feedback in the physical classroom or on manaba+R, depending on the activity.
The level of this class is UI (upper-intermediate).
