Course Outline and Method

This course is designed to help students practice English while pursuing a research project. Hence, advanced English fluency is not required. It is advisable that students allot time outside of the class hours to proactively do their own research and provide individual research inputs for class discussions.
Students should try to schedule their own research plan to allow enough time ahead of the due dates for assignments such as a mid-term presentation and a final presentation as well as a final report.

The course is offered in English as a combination of lectures, presentations, and class discussions. The first few classes will focus on background studies of relevant topics to be facilitated by the teacher. The rest of the term will be about developing research topics, which will consist presentations and class discussions. Each student is required to do at least two presentations depending on the number of participants.

* While students are encouraged to practice their English communication skills in class, Japanese will be allowed in discussion to the mininal level.
* Students are expected to read articles that I will be providing before each session. These will supplement your research and our class discussions.
* Expertise and experience sharing from students are expected since participants will be able to mingle with a network of students from different research interests. The class will try to accomodate reseach interest in any field. So far, we have covered topics like digital payment, electronic cars, over the top media, and alternative proteins.
* Absences will be taken seriously into consideration for your grades. Extra assignments can be given depending on the situation, otherwise, absence will severely affect your final grade. On the other hand, as per the history of this class, students who had complete attendance and actively participated in classes usually had high final remarks.
* Course schedule might change depending on the number of participants and current issues in business management.
*In this course, we may feature guest speakers during certain sessions. In the event of a guest speaker, the format (remote or face-to-face) is subject to change. I will provide updates and communicate all relevant details via the Course News once the schedule is finalized.
